Taco Bron...Draft Beer served at 30-degrees

There are several mexican restaurants in Tucson that I recommend simply because they are comfortable. Taco Bron, located on the east end of restaurant row at 6910 E Tanque Verde Road is one such restaurant. No waiting in line. No waiting for your name to be called. No waiting for a beeper to go off. Just quick friendly service, tasty tacos and cold beer.
I ordered a draft beer that was served just the way I like it in a 12 oz. frosted mug. The icy slush at the bottom of the mug plunged my thermometer to 30 degrees. It was Father’s Day, June 17th, and the first cold sip provided much needed relief to the 103 outdoor temperature. A cocktail napkin or coaster would have been nice as the abundant frost on the outside of the mug quickly melted and left pools of water on the table, and yes, on my shirt. Taco Bron also offers 60 oz. and 32 oz. pitchers of draft, but I noticed that many of the patrons were drinking Mexican made long neck bottled beer served with the customary wedge of lime.

We started our meal with the quacamole appetizer served atop a bed of lettuce, surrounded with plenty of crisp tortilla chips and presented on a large plate.

For the main course I chose numero quatro with carne asada tacos and cheese quesadilla. The cubed beef in the small soft tacos was extra charred yet tender and was served with fresh cabbage and pickled onion. I added a spoonful of mild salsa to each taco which made them delicious. My wife enjoyed the side of white rice, lightly tinted green with cilantro, that comes along refried beans with each combination meal.

My daughter chose the build your own burrito, which for an eight year old becomes an entertaining participation sport. She settled on carne asada with mushrooms, potatoes, tomatoes and cheese.

The comfortable decor at Taco Bron features rustic leather seats and wooden tables in two small dinning rooms. Each wall, painted a different rich color, is hung with Diego Rivera prints or similar Mexican art. There is also a large patio for dining that features a water fountain and a Dora the Explorer jumping castle that keeps the kids busy before and after the meal. A small comfortable bar is adorned with sports memorabilia (mostly Dallas Cowboys) and several televisions set to the ball game.

After the meal we sat and talked as my daughter bounced in the castle. Taco Bron is so comfortable we didn’t want to leave. I was tempted to order another frosted mug of beer.
